Prenatal Yoga Classes

Prenatal Yoga provides a relaxed and nurturing atmosphere where you can enhance the bonding process with your baby while supporting the development and strengthening of your body, mind, and spirit during pregnancy and after pregnancy. The yoga exercises and postures, deep breathing techniques, and mantras greatly impact the quality of your pregnancy and birth experience as well as the many changes your body and emotions go through after the baby arrives. This class ends with an extra-long relaxation period. This class is also a wonderful opportunity to meet other pregnant women who can relate with you as you experience the miracle of the life growing within you and the transition of becoming a mother.

The benefits of a regular prenatal yoga practice will provide you with the healthiest and most peaceful pregnancy possible. Prenatal yoga practice can also help ease morning sickness, alleviate edema, and prevent varicose veins. The benefits of a regular postnatal  yoga practice will provide you with core and pelvic floor strengthening, increase overall strength and flexibility and you will gain upper body strength and stretch shoulders to promote healthy spine movement and openness for breastfeeding .

In this class you will:
  • Help strengthen the pelvic muscles – instrumental in the birthing process, and post-birth to bring your body back to a pre-pregnancy state.
  • Exercise and strengthen the uterus so that it functions more efficiently and increases the potential for a normal delivery.
  • Exercise the spine and help reduce backaches.
  • Aid in proper digestion and circulation, and regulate breathing.
This 1 hour and 15 min. class is held every Monday evening. If you would like to bring your own yoga mat, feel free! Otherwise we do have mats available for you to use, we just asked that they be wiped down after each use. We also provide all of the yoga props such as blankets, bolsters, straps, etc. to make a variety of postures possible and comfortable for everyone.

How do I clean my Medela pump tubing?

We get a lot of moms coming in asking about cleaning their Medela breastpump tubing, whether for the Symphony hospital-grade rental pump, the Medela Freestyle pump or for the personal-grade Pump In Style Advanced breastpump.

One thing to note, milk shouldn't normally be going into your Medela tubing when you pump.  If you see milk coming back into the tubing, make sure of two things:

1. Your pumping bottles are upright while you're pumping and
2. Your valves and membranes are attached fully, and that they don't have any holes or cuts.  Only air is supposed to go through the tubes.

Every time after you pump, disconnect (and clean) all of your pump parts, but leave the tubing connected. Let your pump keep running for another 5-10 minutes with just the tubing connected - this will usually get rid of any little bit of milk or condensation.

The Music of My Children

I’m not a very good dancer. I never really learned how to dance and I’m a little uncomfortable dancing when other people are around.

I also can’t sing. My mean, terrible, horrible sister told me I had a lousy voice when we were little and I just stopped singing all together. I love my sister and she’s not really mean, terrible or horrible, but she’s my sister so also she is.

I can’t play any musical instruments. I wanted to be good at playing an instrument and in elementary school, I played the flute for two years, but I really wanted to play the drums. After those two years I lost interest in playing an instrument and never went back to try anything else.

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope my kids dance in public like there is no one around, sing loud & proud and find an instrument that they love and feel in their heart.
